Welcome to the School Counseling Department for Huntsville City Schools

The Huntsville City Schools Counseling and Guidance Program is a comprehensive counseling and guidance program that helps prepare students for success in academic, career, and personal/social development. Counseling and guidance is an integral part of each school's total education program. The counseling and guidance program helps students achieve their full potential through four program delivery components: School Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, Responsive Services and System Support.

The Huntsville City Schools Counseling and Guidance Program follows The ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs and the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance State Model for Alabama Public Schools.

Huntsville City Schools currently employs 44 counselors. Each counselor has met the qualifications for Highly Qualified certification in the field of school counseling. Each school has a Guidance Advisory Council which meets at least twice a year to plan programming and to develop goals and evaluate outcomes for the year. The GAC is composed of school staff, school administrators, parents, and community representatives. The 2012-2013 Counseling and Guidance Advisory Council is composed of the following members:
