 Chanda Davis, Science Teacher at Huntsville High School

Recipient of the Presidential Award of Excellence in Math and Science Teaching given by the National Science Foundation.  This award is given to one math and one science teacher for each state. Chanda won for Alabama as the Science Teacher.   She traveled to Washington D.C. in June to receive this prestigious award along with a montary gift of $10,000.  Congratulations Chanda!

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) held their State Leadership Conference February 7th and 8th in Montgomery at the Performing Arts Centre.    Students from New Century Technology High School placed in the following categories:

Huntsville High School FBLA

The HHS Chapter received awards for their Annual Business Report, Outstanding State Chapter, Outstanding Chapter in District 6, and raising the 2nd most money for March of Dimes from a state chapter (we raised over $2,500 this year).

Grissom FBLA

Congratulations to the (Future Business Leader of America) students who competed in the Alabama State Leadership Conference and made it to the National Leadership Conference to be held in Anaheim, California, June 27-30, 2013.

 Greenpower Team USA

Mike Evans and students in Drafting design/Rapid Prototyping program were selected as the U.S. representative to participate in the Greenpower race in West Sussex, U.K.


NASA Great Moonbuggy Race

HCT’s “Moon Rats” team placed 8th and 9th in the 2013 Great Moonbuggy Race out of over 100 international participants. The team also received the most improved engineering & performance award for their repair and performance on the second day of the event.


Alabama Career Ready Certificates:

Huntsville Center for Technology awarded the largest number of Alabama Career Ready Certificates for Alabama during the 2012-2013 school year.


NCCER Certifications:

Over 60 students enrolled in Welding and Construction programs at HCT earned NCCER certifications.


Microsoft IT Academies Grant:

Huntsville City Schools was awarded a grant to pilot Microsoft IT Academies at Huntsville High School and Lee High School. Academies at other system high schools will be added in 2013-2014

Over 30 students awarded Microsoft Certifications.
