Huntsville City Registration Information

What you need to bring with you to enroll a new student:
Huntsville City School System and the Alabama State Department of Education require the following for registration.  (Schools are not permitted to make exceptions and children cannot attend school with incomplete registrations.)

  • "Blue" State Immunization Form - Information from other states can be transferred by local clinics or doctors or the Madison County Health Department.
  • Registration Form - Forms are available in the school office.
  • Student's Social Security Card - Office staff will make a copy of this.
  • 2 proofs of residence - Proofs must be a lease, deed, or mortgage and a Utility or Phone bill.  If you are new to the community, you will need to bring a building contract with completion date if the home is still under construction (Must occupy home within 90 days of registration date.) Hampton Falls apartments are not in the Hampton Cove Elementary Attendance Zone.
  • Name and address of previous school - This is not required, but it is helpful in obtaining records.
  • Certified Birth Certificate
We encourage early registration, so that all forms can be reviewed and teacher assignments can be made.  Before making plans to register during the summer months of June and July, please call the school office at 428-7180 to ensure someone is at the school.  During summer months, school staff is limited so the school may be closed when our Central Office calls special meetings.  Elementary school offices are closed from June 14th - July 16th.  Attendance age and rules are determined by state regulations and are outlined in the Huntsville City School's Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

    Important Information

Student class assignments are mailed home the week before school starts (to all registered students)  Students who were enrolled during the previous school year or new students who have complete registrations will receive post cards.  Parents of unassigned students should contact the school office regarding the needed registration items.   Since we are a public school, requests for teachers are not accepted.  In unusual circumstances, a parent may request to the current teacher or to the school office (in writing) that his or her child be separated from another student.  Written requests for special learning accommodations for a student may be sent to the school office.  Any special learning requests for currently enrolled students should be received by May 14.

    August Grade Level Parent Orientations
Each team of teachers or individual teacher provides parents with an orientation to the grade’s curriculum, grading standards, and classroom procedures. Parent's only, please.   Our parent orientations are listed on our home page.

    First Day of School
Our school doors will open at the usual time, 7:30 a.m.  Parents are invited to school to assist their children in finding rooms and bringing supplies.  At 8:00 a.m., we’ll begin instruction and ask parents to leave so that our first day is a normal day of school.  This is a full day of school with a 2:30 dismissal.  Parents who live nearby may wish to walk, since parking is limited.  All elementary and middle school entrances streets must remain open to permit buses and cars to safely enter and exit.  Please be sure your child has lunch money and knows how he or she will go home at the end of the day.  Car riders are picked up in the front of the school in Lane 1.  Teachers and Safety Patrol students assist students inside the building to ensure everyone arrives where expected.  Parents may not wait outside individual classrooms because the added congestion in the halls confuses our youngest students

Lunch menus and the school system calendar can also be found on the Huntsville City School System’s home page at www.hsv.k12.al.us.  Don’t forget to join our PTA!
