Historical Information
Lincoln Elementary is located in the northeast area of Huntsville, Alabama. The neighborhood has a variety of stores, fast-food restaurants, and businesses. Also, several churches are in this area. The residential area includes apartments, a federal housing project, and single family homes. The Huntsville Boys and Girls Club and the HEALS clinic are near the school.
Lincoln Elementary is a public, urban elementary school. The school was built in 1929 in what was known as the Lincoln Mill District of Madison County. The original school received financial support from the Lincon Mills of Alabama and was named after its owner and operator, William Lincoln Barrell. Since the school has historical significance, Lincoln was placed on the National Historic Register. It is the oldest school building still being used as a school in Huntsville. The facility remains virtually
unchanged except for the addition of a cafeteria, a handicap ramp, and an additional building for physical education classes.
LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
has commissioned Ed Starnes to commemorate
the school's 75th anniversary with an original water color painting.
