Heights Elementary
A Center
For Enriched Academics
Weatherly,
located in the Southeast section of Huntsville, has
a consistent enrollment of 560 to 580 students.
In addition to a K-5 program, Weatherly
has 4 preschool classes. Weatherly's population
is 20 percent African American, 70 percent
Caucasian, and a 10% a mixture of Asian,
Middle Eastern and Hispanic. Eighteen percent
of
the student population receives free or reduced

Weatherly has a very strong academic
program, which focuses on the needs
of all the students. Enrichment
and reinforcement of skills are a focus of
the overall program for all students. Academic
instruction is based on research based sound
practices. Standardized test assessments show
that at grades 3-5, Weatherly always is above
the city and state average, with 85-92 percent
achieving above the benchmark for the state.
Programs are continuously analyzed to ensure
quality instruction for all students. In addition,
Weatherly has numerous enrichment opportunities
for students,
both during the school day and after school.
Weatherly has one of the few Science labs
paid by the PTA, and each class attends the
hands-on Science lab on the same
rotation as Art and Music. Weatherly has a
3-day Enrichment school wide, in May each year,
where students can choose a group led by teachers
other than their own classroom teacher. Students
also have the opportunity to be Peer Tutors,
Science Lab aides, PE aides, Supply Store assistants,
Library aides, Safety Patrol members, etc.
After school activities include Chess Club,
Science Olympiad, Technology Club, Garden Club,
Art Club etc.
Weatherly
parent support has always been at an exceptionally
high level. Weatherly has the longest running
record of 100% PTA membership in the state
of Alabama. Volunteers are an integral part
of our school, serving in the library, clinic,
classrooms, and special
projects.
