E-MAP The University of Alabama with the National Science Foundation is offering a new summer program to build math skills for students entering engineering, science, and math majors. See Ms. Hall for details.

OXFORD SUMMER PROGRAM 2009 Advanced studies program. Brasenose College. Oxford, England. 7th - 31st July 2009. See Ms. Hall if you are interested.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ADVANTAGE PROGRAM WHAT. 10-day summer program designed to cultivate cultural awareness and an international understanding of business in developing market. WHERE. Four nights at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, five nights at the Millsaps College Center for Business & Culture in Yucatan, located in Merida, Mexico, and one night at Millsaps College's 4,000-acre biocultural reserve, Kaxil Kiuic. WHO. Rising seniors with a competitive GPA and a letter of recommendation from their school. This program is tailored to students with an entreprenueurial spirit who are interested in an engaging classroom environment, studying abroad, international business and relations, and a great adventure. WHEN. June 8th-18th, 2009. COST. The total cost of the program is $2600, which includes all travel expenses, lodging, food, and hospitality. After participating in the program, students who subsequently attend Millsaps College will be awarded an additional scholarship of $1,000 per year, as well as a waiver of the $250 enrollment deposit fee.

USC WRIGLEY MARINE SCIENCE CENTER Summer Programs for Middle School and High School. High School students entering grade 9, 10, or 11: July 26-August 2; Activities include: Kayaking, Snorkeling, Hiking, Swimming, Group Projects, Field Exploration, Lab Study, Botany, Astronomy, Arts & Crafts, Geology, and Experiments.

SWANEE THE BRIDGE PROGRAM offers programs in math and science. Complete applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2009. See Ms. Hall for details.

BAYLOR SCIENCE AND RESEARCH PROGRAM May 31 - July 3, 2009. Application materials must be received by March 2, 2009. Work side by side with research experts, learn how to use the latest research instruments and interpret data through techniques not usually avaliable in high school labs, participate in science and technology seminars, enjoy planned recreational and social activities, and much more. See Ms. Hall if interested.

FURMAN SUMMER SCHOLARS deadline: June 13. 2009. Offered only to 11th and 12th grade students. Graphic Design, FUTube, Theater, Writing About Film, Leadership Quest, A Mock Trial, Psychology, Fit for Life, Sabor hispano, French Today, Googling Earth, Ecological Identity, etc. See Ms. Hall for details.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY OXFORD, OHIO is holding a 2009 Multicultural Leadership Program Summer Leadership Institute (MLPSLI). It is a four-day, residential program that includes exploration of academic, leadership, and career opportunities as well as leisure activities. SUMMER COLLEGE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS The University of Mississippi offers a summer college for adademically gifted juniors (and some sophomores) for a head start on their college careers by taking two courses. See Ms. Hall for more information.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS perfect mix of academic challenge and summer fun with Boston University's Summer Term High School Programs. Join other motivated high school students from around the globe, and prepare for an exciting summer as you are introduced to the challenges and rigors of undergraduate life at a premier research university in one of America's most dynamic cities. WHITE HOUSE INTERNSHIP May 22 to August 14. The White House Internship program is a full-time program. There are no part-time internships. All applicants must submit, by email, a completed application packet on or before Sunday, March 22. Applicants must be citizens and at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship, and currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college or university. BOSTON COLLEGE Spend six weeks at Boston College from June 29th to August 6th, 2009. Take college courses; earn college credit. Live and study with your peers as you experience college. JSU TECHNOLOGY SUMMER INSTITUTE June 15-19, 2009. The goal is to explore engineering and technology concepts and expose students to the variety of rewardinig careers available in these areas. The student will receive a $250.00 stipend on completion of the program along with a certificate of completion. See Ms. Hall for eligibility requirements.

ALSAMP Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation is foucusing on enabling participating minority high school graduates to achieve a smooth transition to college. Along with this program is a UAB summer bridge program for business students. See Ms. Hall for eligibility requirements and other information.

BSC STUDENT LEADERS IN SERVICE Student Leaders in Service is a week-long residential program for students who will be seniors in the 2009-2010 academic school year. The program exposes high school students to leadership theories and provides opportunities to practice leadership theories and provides opportunities to practice leadership through community service, while also giving students a taste of college life. This program will be held June 14-19, 2009. See Ms. Hall if you are interested.

LSU The School of Architecture and Department of Interior Design at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge will be offering a one-week career exploration workshop, June 7-13, 2009. The fee associated with the workshop os $500.00 all expenses in conjunction to the workshop is included in the fee. Partial and full scholarships may be awarded if funds are avaliable and are based upon financial need. Applications and fees are due on or before May 4, 2009. See Ms. Hall for more information.

WPI Worcester Polytechnic Institute offers 4 summer programs, WPI Frontiers, Launch, Strive, and WUNDERS programs, if you are interested in exploring options in science, technology, and engineering this may be the place for you! See Ms. Hall if you are interested.

CRESTWOOD MEDICAL CENTER has partnered with Junior Achievement of North AL for a unique summer program. Students can participate in Crestwood's Volunteer Program which qualifies as Junior Achievement Job Shadow Workplace Internship. This is a great opportunity for students to learn from within the hospital and about careers in healthcare. See Ms. Hall for requirements and how to apply.

J.F. DRAKE STATE BRIDGE PROGRAM June 1-25, 2009 Get paid a stipend of approx. $544 to find out more about careers in the sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science. Classes are 4 hours a day, 4 days a week for 4 weeks. See Ms. Hall for application information. Deadline has been extended. Apply now!

MILLSAPS INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ADVANTAGE PROGRAM for rising high school seniors. The first four days of the ten day program are spent on the Millsaps campus studying international business. The remaining six days are spent in Yucatan, Mexico where students learn hands-on about the developing market and meet with governmental authorities, businesspeople, and locals. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an International Business Advantage Certificate. If the student decides to attend Millsaps, they will also receive a $250 deposit fee wavier and a $1000 per year renewable scholarship that is stackable with other Millsaps scholarships. UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA CONTINUING STUDIES offers high school courses through written correspondence and the Internet for students who need credits for the next school year or who meet eligibility requirements for fall extracurricular activities. During the summer only, students may submit three lessons per week instead of the usual two. The additional one lesson per week is to allow students the possibility of completing one full credit during the summer months. Summer/eligibility enrollment April 1-June 12, 2009. HEALTH CAREER CAMP Calhoun Community College is once again offering Health Career Camp for interested students who will be entering the 11th or 12th grade this fall. The event will be based on the Decatur Campus and includes experiences at area hospitals. Camp is designed to provide students information about health care activities, career opportunities, and furthering their education. When: Wednesday-Thursday, June 17th and 18th, 2009. Where: Decatur Campus of Calhoun Community College and area hospitals. Cost: Free. Deadline: All applications and references due May 15, 2009. See Ms. Hall if interested.

CSLC The Congressional Student Leadership Conference, sponsored by LeadAmerica, offers high-quality academic and leadership experiences that will allow students to grow personally and academically. Whether exploring careers such as medicine, business, law, or government, traveling abroad, or studying on a college campus and earning college credit, the CSLC is often described as a "life-changing" experience. There is a cost with this program and students must be nominated. If you would like to be considered see Ms. Hall.

UAHUNTSVILLE SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE for rising 9th through 12th grade students in Northern Alabama. The University of Alabama in Huntsville will host a Summer Transportation Institute that will be held on the campus of UAHuntsville June 1st - June 26th from 9:30am-3:00pm each day Monday-Friday. Participants must be able to commute to campus each day. This program provides experiences for these students to enhance their awareness of career Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering with an emphasis on opportunities that exist in the transportation industry. There is no program fee to the students. The participants will be selected through a competitive process. Approx. 30 students will be selected. If you would like to be considered please see Ms. Hall. The enclosed nomination form must be completed and submitted by May 12, 2009.

LAW CAMP will help students to broaden their understanding of today's legal systems and be exposed in a new way to contemporary social justice issues. For students entering the 9th-12th grades considering a career in law. The cost to attend is $500/participant if registered after May 1 including room, board, course materials, and camp events. READING SKILLS AND SPEED READING PROGRAMS at the University of Alabama. For entering 9th-11th graders and another program for entering 12th graders, college students, and adults. Learn to double your reading speed in material for school or work, triple speed in easier material, improve comprehension, and virtually eliminate re-reading.

OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY HBCU-UP is a multi-desciplined program designed to strengthen the University's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs and: increase the number or STEM graduated not planning to attend Professional School, increase the number of students who attend graduate school and obtain Ph. D or MS degrees in a STEM discipline and increase the institution's research infrastructure. See Ms. Hall if interested.

FBI NATIONAL ACADEMY ASSOCIATES has a program for sophomores and juniors interested in law enforcement and criminal justice. It is a summer program in Washington, D.C. Interested applicants should see Ms. hall for more info.
