'07- '08   JUNIORS – JUMP-START YOUR POSTSECONDARY   PLANNING

The last half of junior year is here and that means it's time to spring into action.

The AHSGE will begin on February 29.   Spring Break is March 17-21.   Class visits for the purpose of registering for senior year will take place directly after Spring Break, March 24, 2008.   Continue to take challenging courses.   When registering for senior year, don't just sign up for easy courses, because that will hurt your chances for college admission and you'll pay when you arrive at college and can't handle the coursework.

Begin a preliminary list of colleges you would like to investigate further.   Make plans to visit colleges this spring when classes are in session.   Start or update an academic resume.   Register for the ACT.   You should be academically ready to take it by spring of this year.   If not, plan to take it in the summer or fall, work hard in your courses and check out free test questions a www.actstudent.org .   Investigate scholarship opportunities using the “College and Career Search Websites “ that were given in the last newsletter. Some of the above information was taken from the January 2008 ACT's News You   Can Use.

OCTOBER 2007       J. FARMER- DR. T. GURLEY- D. ROBERTS     LEE HIGH SCHOOL

‘07-‘08  START YOUR ENGINES
Welcome back JUNIORS!  It is time to start your engines and put forth your best effort to make this another great school year.  Currently we have approximately 174 junior class members - hang in there.  GPA, class rank, challenging course work, community involvement, extracurricular activities, clubs/organizations, attendance, attitude and behavior are crucial.  If you have not yet taken the ACT make sure you take it this spring in April.  Initially, colleges will be looking at your junior year GPA and your ACT scores when deciding on admissions and scholarships.  Try to take on a leadership position or an active role in a group.  Put together an interest inventory.  What do you like to do?  What activities, courses of study and extracurricular activities do you like?  Think about the type of college you would like to attend (2 yr., 4 yr., small, large); military; career technical; or go straight into the work force.  It is time to start your engines.
