This is a page of Harry Potter Character Bios I've
compiled. I know I don't have that many because I'm doing this in a
period of about three days. If I would have had more time, I would
have LOVED to have done bios for ALL of the characters. Below I have biographies of JK Rowling,
Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid.
Like
that of her own character, Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling's life has
the luster of a fairy tale. Divorced, living on public assistance
in a tiny Edinburgh flat with her infant daughter, Rowling wrote
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at a table in a café during
her daughter's naps — and it was Harry Potter that rescued her.
First, the Scottish Arts Council gave her a grant to finish the
book.

After its sale to Bloomsbury (UK) and Scholastic Books, the
accolades began to pile up.
Harry Potter won The British Book
Awards Children's Book of the Year, and the Smarties Prize, and
rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Book rights have been
sold to England, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Greece, Finland,
Denmark, Spain and Sweden.

Tall
and thin with long silvery hair and beard, half moon glasses and a
rather long and crooked nose, Dumbledore is the wise
headmaster of Hogwarts. Immeasurably talented and powerful, he is
said to be the only wizard feared by Lord Voldemort himself. He is
a somewhat controversial headmaster, revered by most, but accused
of being "the worst thing to happen to Hogwarts"
by the extremist Deatheater/ pureblood wing.
|
Dumbledore is
somewhat eccentric, with a fondness for wool socks and lemon
drops, and his twinkling blue eyes lead one to believe he knows
much more than he lets on. He can see through Invisibility Cloaks,
has a Phoenix and a Pensieve, and Harry finds his office one of
the most interesting places in Hogwarts. |
Professor
McGonagall is a tall, stern-looking witch in her 70's with
black hair worn in a tight bun, and square-rimmed spectacles. She
is extremely clever, being the professor of transfiguration (a
tricky subject) and one of the only seven registered animagi this
century (she transforms into a tabby cat with discernible square
markings around the eyes...). While
she is quite strict, she is not unkind and is also completely
fair, unlike Professor Snape. |
She
is head of Gryffindor house , and deputy headmistress of Hogwarts;
it is she who alerts and orients the first year students and
oversees the Sorting Ceremony and Quidditch commentary. She also
took over when Dumbledore was temporarily suspended, and
authorized Hermione's use of the time-turner during her 3rd year. |
Huge, hairy
and at a cursory glance, frightening, Hagrid is the kindly
Hogwarts gamekeeper. He and Harry Potter share a special
friendship, as it was Hagrid who rescued Harry first from the
wreckage of Godric's Hollow, and second from the Dursley's when he
whisked Harry away to Hogwarts. Hagrid
is immensely faithful to his friends, and his loyalty to
Dumbledore borders on the fanatic. |
Hagrid is immensely faithful to his friends, and his loyalty to
Dumbledore borders on the fanatic. "Great man,
Dumbledore," is one of Hagrid's most common
phrases. Hagrid became a teacher Harry's third year,
and was given the opportunity to share his love of monstrous
beasts with students, who don't seem to share his enthusiasm.
